IIT Madras Will Give a Free Course in Mathematics on “Out of the Box Thinking.”

IIT Madras is going to offer a free online course on ‘Out of the Box Thinking’ through mathematics. The course is offered by NPTEL and IIT Madras in collaboration with IISc Bangalore and Tata Institute of Fundamental Research Mumbai.

The course is being offered by the Pravartak Technologies Foundation, a not-for-profit organization that promotes mathematical thinking and problem-solving.

The courses will be taught by Sadagopan Rajesh, Mathematics Educator and founder-director of Aryabhatta Institute of Mathematical Sciences.. According to IIT Madras, the course will take students beyond the usual scope of mathematics by introducing them to unconventional thinking. After the completion of the course, learners will be able to apply mathematics to solve problems in different domains, including social and natural sciences, engineering, and business.

He has also been a trainer for competitive examinations like JEE, NEET, and GATE for many years. He has been a part of various educational boards like Jain International Residential School, Bangalore, The Foundation School, Hyderabad, The Shriram School, New Delhi and currently, he is the President of National Institute of Open Schooling, India, which is the largest Open School in India and the second largest in the world.

Speaking about this initiative, Sadagopan Rajesh said, “If we approach mathematics with discipline and passion not necessarily in a formal way but realize the subject with more logical and analytical reasoning, we can broaden our thinking. The important output is the development of skills which are essential to fit and effectively contribute in a rapidly changing technological world.”

The course will cover topics such as mathematical thinking and problem-solving, reasoning and proof, set theory, and number theory. The course will start on July 1 and will be held through a virtual classroom.

The course is open to students, teachers, and researchers, who have a basic understanding of calculus.
